How Music Affects the Mind

Although it may not be so noticeable, music is a very powerful thing. It is a way for us to communicate, and or express ourselves, letting us experience a large variety of emotions.

In this article, we are going to explain to you what music is, how it gives emotion, and how you can use it to your benefit.

First question : What is Music? 

Music is a sort of art that is procured in certain ways to produce beauty and harmony that can be heard through sound. Types of music include those such as pop, classical, hip-hop, rap, and many more. 

Second question : How can music affect the mind?

Music is a simple yet effective antidote to pain. In recent studies, scientists found out that listening to music can help reduce pain and increase functional mobility. Researchers believe that music can also ease pain by triggering opioids – the body’s natural and effective pain relievers. 

Other examples are that sometimes when someone hears a song they enjoy, the brain will release special fluids (often adrenalin) that make you excited. 

Third question : How can I use music to my advantage?

In order for you to use music to your advantage, you have to find music that is right for you. After you do that, you can listen to it when you’re stressed, angry, or just plain sad. As pianists, we often get classical music in our repertoire (our big collection of the pieces we’ve played) and we stick to those pieces when we have emotional feelings towards those pieces..
