- Tell us about yourself
My name is Adele Nguyen and I’m currently a junior at Evergreen Valley High School. Music has been a major part of my childhood. I’ve been playing piano since kindergarten and through playing various classical pieces, have completed the CM Advanced Level. As of right now, my musical activities include accompanying the SFOA Cecilia choir on piano and playing violin for my school’s orchestra.
2. What do you do at Oclef?
At Oclef, I am a piano instructor for the Kaizen classes! This means working with students to enhance their practice time through the use of practice tools.
3. What have you learned working at Oclef?
From working at Oclef, I’ve learned what maximizes the effectiveness of practice. Through comparing the students practices to my own past experiences, the environment really matters. Oclef provides a space for complete focus and individual work. If I had a place like that growing up, I would’ve enjoyed practice a lot more!
4. How is learning piano at Oclef different, and what is your view on how that impacts student learning and development?
Learning piano at Oclef is quite different. While other studios tend to teach their students with listening and imitating what the music is supposed to sound like, Oclef focuses on the importance of all aspects of reading music. The students learn and use practice tools to enhance their skills. I also like how parents are involved with the Keynote classes. This gives parents a chance to learn music themselves and to guide their children in the process. Piano can’t be mastered in a day, or even a few years. Oclef’s teaching techniques allow students to learn piano with the right start.
