Want to keep students long term – do lessons twice weekly.

When I first started teaching at my current studio there were several students who I taught twice weekly – they were all beginners. I found that they progressed quickly because I was able to guide their practice and they knew they would have a lesson in a few days, so they practiced regularly.

Two years later, I still have all of those students. They are no longer on the twice weekly plan, but the effects have lasted. Most of the students are now doing really well and are stable in their learning of music. They practice regularly and are excited to come to lessons. Retention rates are higher and parents are more likely to be thinking long term.

Is this is a secret to creating better long term students? What do you think? Any experience with this?
